Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey)

Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey)

Who is Ringo Starr?  Ringo was born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940, which makes him the eldest Beatle, surpassing John Lennon (October 9, 1940) by three months.  All four Beatles, by the way, were born in Liverpool, England.  As a child, Ringo faced several serious illnesses which put him in hospital many days of the year.  Today, he is in good health, still singing Beatles /Ringo vocals for large crowds.

After the Beatles officially split in 1970, Ringo went on to have a fair success in the movies, and worldwide acclaim as ‘Mister Conductor’ in the acclaimed “Thomas & Friends” British children’s television series first season.  However, it was during the filming of “Caveman” in 1980 where Ringo met his second wife actress Barbara Bach.  The couple was married on April 27, 1981.

Ringo was the last member to join the Beatles, officially replacing Pete Best on August 16, 1962.  Before joining the Beatles, he was the drummer for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, a popular Skiffle turned rock band in Liverpool.

During his time with the Beatles, Ringo was usually allotted 1 solo per album, and never really contributed any original music.  After leaving the Beatles, George Harrison wrote a few hit tunes for Ringo including the hit, “Photograph.”
